CRAMP-FREE COMFORT
Stand height adjusts from approximately 28 1/2” - 41 1/2” in two inch increments. Add the thickness of your instrument for final fretboard playing height. If you need the ability to play at a different height, let us know, as we may be able to accommodate a slightly shorter or taller range.
GET A GOLDILOCKS FIT
Sliding braces adjust to fits various sizes and makes of hourglass-, teardop-, and elliptical-shaped dulcimer styles. Silicone sleeves and a non-skid pad protect your instrument and hold it securely. Our goal is to make sure the stand fits your dulcimer, no matter the size or style. If our standard size braces aren’t suitable, we will custom manufacture the correct size at no extra charge.
Brace pegs are 1.50” tall. If your instrument is electric and has controls on the side of the body that interfere with the pegs, we can shorten them to insure they don’t contact each other.
PICK YOUR POSTURE
With a simple twist of a few knobs, you can adjust the tilt angle of your dulcimer. Adjusts from 0 to approximately 40 degrees. Instruments are held safely and securely in the braces, even when tilted. With the included bungee cords, you can add extra security. Note: we recommend using bungee cords with violin edge instruments, due to the reduced amount of contact surface area.
TIME TO GET DOWN
Some players prefer a lower peghead playing position, similar to lap playing. With The Howdy Stand, you can lower the peghead by 2, 4, or 6 inches, providing a more natural playing position.
ROAD TRIP READY
With the simple twist of a few knobs, The Howdy Stand folds for convenient storage or travel. The included hook-and-loop straps hold it all together. Additionally, the base legs can be easily removed and stored separately if an even smaller footprint is needed.
STEADY, THERE
Furniture-style feet adjust to accommodate uneven floors or ground, with a maximum of range approximately 5/8”.
HANDY HOWDY STORAGE
We all need a place to store our picks, capos, and tuners. We call them “howdy doodads”, and we’ve included a special pouch just for them (or whatever else will fit). Attaches via a leg knob. Can also hold bungee and hook-and-loop straps. Lovingly sewn by my very own mother. Thanks, mom!
HANDY HOWDY HELPERS
We added some extras to make sure you have everything you need: a Howdy pick, extra knobs, two bungee cords, two hook-and-loop straps, and two hex keys if needed for tightening. Note: knobs should be easily hand tightened and loosened. In the event a bolt does spin, the hex keys can be used in the bolt head to stop the spinning.
Innovations
SIMPLE SECURITY
This unique joint allows the quick and simple stand folding and unfolding. The turn of a knob separates the instrument support base and allows it to swing back and down out of the way for folding.
SMOOTH MOTION
A simple twist of two knobs assists the folding functionality. With one end held in place with a single drilled hole, the other has a slot that allows smooth folding and unfolding, with a simple jog to lock it in place when opened.
FLEXIBLE, YET SECURE
Two identical, yet opposite stop blocks allow up to 40 degrees of tilt angle for an optimum playing position. While they look a little like they’ve been “cut in half”, this allows them to swing around and store out of the way during folding.
When The Howdy is set up at an angle and a tilt together, the laws of physics and trigonometry require a slight swivel action to avoid binding and pinching. These two plates allow that. Just slightly loosen before adjusting and retighten before placing your dulcimer.
